Fluidra describes it as the Cooling Fan Fasco BLDC Motor, and its motor spare parts list as Cooling Fan, Fasco, BLDC. The matching Fasco BLDC fan cowl is 40270 (not stocked). The Viron XT and Viron eVo P320 and P600 spare parts lists show the Notos fan 40285, not this fan. One fan per pump.

Fluidra lists this fan for its Fasco brushless DC motor. The Astralpool parts lists available to us do not say which pump models were built with that motor, so confirm the motor before ordering.
Not this fan: the Viron XT P320 and P520 (all series) and the Viron eVo P320 and P600 take 40285, item 19 on their spare parts lists. Single speed pumps take 40285 (black Notos 750W to 1500W), 40256 (beige Fasco 750W to 1500W), 40275 (Notos 3 HP and three-phase), 40251 (mini motor 71310) or 40183 (CMG).
Ask first, every time: if you have an older Astralpool variable speed pump, such as a Viron P280 or P300, or any brushless DC motor that is not on a Viron XT or eVo list, send us a photo of the motor, its data plate and the old fan.

Confirm this fan by the motor, and check with us before ordering:
- Viron XT or Viron eVo? Not this fan. The Viron XT P320 and P520 (all series) and the Viron eVo P320 and P600 take 40285, item 19 on their spare parts lists.
- Fasco brushless DC motor? This fan. Fluidra lists 40269 for its Fasco BLDC motor, under the Fasco BLDC fan cowl 40270.
- Older Viron P280 or P300? Ask first. Astralpool's P-Series owner's manual lists the 70600 cowl, but the lists available to us do not give the fan. Send us a photo of the motor and the old fan.
- Single speed pump? Different fan. Use the chart below to find the fan for a single speed motor.
What the Cooling Fan Does
These pump motors are air cooled. The fan on the rear of the motor shaft draws air in through the cowl and pushes it along the motor body, and the cowl guides that air and keeps fingers and debris away from the spinning fan. Astralpool's Viron XT installation manual says the pump must have proper ventilation to prevent the motor overheating, that overheating due to lack of cooling voids the warranty, and lists poor airflow over the motor as a cause of the HI T over temperature fault. A single speed pump has no display to warn you that it is running hot.
The same manual says to check the surroundings for leaves and debris and, with the power off, to spray a surface insecticide around the control every three months, because ants and some insects are attracted to the warm, dry environment inside the enclosure.

Fitting Notes
Isolate the pump at the power point or switchboard before removing the cowl. Astralpool's pump manuals say the pump must be installed and serviced by a licensed electrician in accordance with AS/NZS 3000.
- Remove the fan cowl from the rear of the motor.
- Remove whatever holds the fan on the shaft and slide the old fan off, noting which way round it sits.
- Fit the new fan the same way round and secure it as the old one was secured.
- Turn the fan by hand to check it is seated and clears the cowl, then refit the cowl.
When to Replace
Astralpool's maintenance schedules give no service interval for the cooling fan. Replace it when blades are broken or missing, when the hub is cracked, when it no longer grips the shaft, or when the cowl is off for a motor, bearing or seal job and the fan shows damage.

To the layperson, plumbing sizes and their names can be confusing due to the nominal sizes and naming conventions used.
This is not something we made up. Plumbers and manufacturers have used nominal (meaning ‘by name only’) sizing for decades.
Simply put, in plumbing, named sizes are often not the actual measurements of the pipe, fitting, or part. A PVC pipe called “50mm” or “2"” does not measure 50 mm anywhere. Instead, it follows nominal sizing, an internationally-standardised naming system.
Almost all fittings we use in the pool & spa industry use “pressure PVC” pipe & fittings. Do not confuse with “DWV” or other pipe & fittings and their names and sizes.
Use the Outside Diameter (OD) to check your pipe against fittings. Below is a quick reference for common spa & pool pipe sizes:

Understanding Plumbing Sizes & Nominal Measurements
Plumbing sizes can be confusing. PVC and many other pipe systems use nominal sizes—the size is a name, not the exact measured dimension. This convention is used across most pool and spa systems and other plumbing areas so that pipes and fittings remain compatible.
Why pipe sizes don’t match the measurements
The Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) system standardises pipe dimensions so that pipes, fittings, valves, and accessories interoperate.
Plumbers work with these nominal names every day, but DIYers can be tripped up if they try to match by a tape-measure alone.

- The pipe’s Outside Diameter (OD).
- The fitting’s Inside Diameter (ID) (socket opening).
- Pipe Class / Schedule (e.g., Class 9, 12, 18 or Sch 40) relates to wall thickness and therefore the Internal Diameter (ID) and pressure rating.
- The outside diameter of a fitting is not useful (wall thickness varies by manufacturer).
