Confirmed Compatibility

Fluidra's description ties this fan to the motor, not the pump: the Notos 3 HP motor and every Notos three-phase motor. Astralpool's pumps manual H0717800 gives these 3 HP and three-phase motor numbers for the XP. The lists do not say which of these motors are Notos motors, so confirm your motor before ordering.

Astralpool's 2014 CTX and BX spare parts lists also include the 2200W motor 71331 (the 3 HP motor in Astralpool's pumps manual), which dealers list for the CTX 610, BX 3.0 and XP 3.0. Those 2014 lists, and the 2017 CX list, describe 71331 as beige, while Fluidra now supplies 71331 as a black 2200W motor, and Fluidra lists a separate cowl, 40262, for its Fasco 2400W 3 HP motor. A 3 HP pump can therefore have more than one type of motor, so check the motor before ordering.

Not this fan: the black Notos 750W, 1100W and 1500W motors and the Viron pumps take 40285. Beige Fasco 750W, 1100W and 1500W motors take 40256. The Fasco 2400W 3 HP motor takes fan 40263 (not stocked, contact us).

Confirm this fan by the motor:

1. 3 HP or three-phase? Read the data plate. A Notos 3 HP motor, or any Notos three-phase motor, takes this fan under cowl 40274. Astralpool's XP motor numbers are 71331 (3 HP) and 71320, 71335 and 71338 (three-phase).
2. Beige 3 HP motor? Ask first. Astralpool's 2014 CTX and BX lists describe 71331 as beige, Fluidra now supplies it black, and Fluidra lists cowl 40262 for its Fasco 2400W 3 HP motor. Send us a photo before ordering.
3. 750W to 1500W or Viron? Different fan. Black Notos 750W, 1100W and 1500W motors and the Viron pumps take 40285; beige Fasco motors of those sizes take 40256.
4. Look under the cowl. The fan sits on the rear of the motor shaft under the cowl. Compare your old fan with this one before fitting, and check how it was held on the shaft.

What the Cooling Fan Does

These pump motors are air cooled. The fan on the rear of the motor shaft draws air in through the cowl and pushes it along the motor body, and the cowl guides that air and keeps fingers and debris away from the spinning fan. Astralpool's Viron XT installation manual says the pump must have proper ventilation to prevent the motor overheating, that overheating due to lack of cooling voids the warranty, and lists poor airflow over the motor as a cause of the HI T over temperature fault. A single speed pump has no display to warn you that it is running hot.

The same manual says to check the surroundings for leaves and debris and, with the power off, to spray a surface insecticide around the control every three months, because ants and some insects are attracted to the warm, dry environment inside the enclosure.

Fitting Notes

Isolate the pump at the power point or switchboard before removing the cowl. Astralpool's pump manuals say the pump must be installed and serviced by a licensed electrician in accordance with AS/NZS 3000.

1. Remove the fan cowl from the rear of the motor.
2. Remove whatever holds the fan on the shaft and slide the old fan off, noting which way round it sits.
3. Fit the new fan the same way round and secure it as the old one was secured.
4. Turn the fan by hand to check it is seated and clears the cowl, then refit the cowl.

When to Replace

Astralpool's maintenance schedules give no service interval for the cooling fan. Replace it when blades are broken or missing, when the hub is cracked, when it no longer grips the shaft, or when the cowl is off for a motor, bearing or seal job and the fan shows damage.

Which motors does the 40275 fan fit?
The Notos 3 HP motor and all Notos three-phase motors, per Fluidra's description. Astralpool's pumps manual gives the XP motors as 71331 (3 HP single phase), 71320 (1 HP three-phase), 71335 (2 HP and 3 HP three-phase) and 71338 (4 HP three-phase), but does not say which are Notos motors.
