Genuine Astralpool o-ring for the diverter shaft of Astralpool 40mm and 50mm multiport valves. Astralpool lists it simply as the O-Ring, No. 10 on the parts diagrams for the 50mm 76053 valve (CA300, CA340, CA400 filters) and the 40mm 76036 valve (ECA550, ECA650 filters). It is also sold as the cover shaft o-ring, stem o-ring, diverter ring or back ring. It seals the shaft where it passes through the valve cover, which stops water weeping out around the handle.
Water weeping around the handle is the usual sign this o-ring has failed. Water at the rim of the cover is a different o-ring, and water running to waste while the valve is on Filter is usually the spider gasket. Use the rule below to match the leak to the part before you order.
The Handle or Rim Rule (rev. MPV-SHAFT-1.0)
- With the pump running and the valve on Filter, dry the valve and watch where water first appears.
- At the centre, around the handle and shaft: this shaft o-ring, 75905, is the usual fix. While the cover is off, check the spring washers and spring for wear.
- At the rim, the seam where the cover bolts to the valve body: not this part. You need the cover o-ring, 75930 on the 50mm valve or 75919 on the 40mm valve.
- Water running to waste, or showing in the sight glass, while on Filter: an internal leak, not this o-ring. Usually a worn spider gasket or a weak spring (see the table below).
Turn the pump off and release the pressure before you remove the valve cover.
| Symptom | Usual part |
|---|---|
| Water weeping around the handle or shaft with the pump running | Shaft o-ring 75905 (this part) |
| Water weeping from the seam between the cover and the valve body | Cover o-ring: 50mm 75930 or 40mm 75919 |
| Water running to waste or showing in the sight glass while set to Filter | Spider gasket: 50mm 75929 or 40mm 75916, or a weak spring 75912 |
Fitment
This o-ring suits the valve, not the filter. An older filter may carry a different valve, so check the valve as well as the filter model. Astralpool lists 75905 on these valves:
| Valve | Port size | Fitted to | Catalogue reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 76053 | 50mm | Astralpool CA300, CA340, CA400 | 2026 catalogue, page 82, No. 10 |
| 76036 | 40mm | Astralpool ECA550, ECA650 | 2026 catalogue, page 83, No. 10 |
Astralpool's 2018-19 and 2019-20 catalogues also list 75905 as No. 10 on the 40mm multiport assembly for the EC filter.
Not listed on the Multiport Valve - Sep 09 - Current parts list. That list, in the same 2026 catalogue, shows a pair of o-rings, 75062, at No. 10 instead. If your valve is not a 76053 or 76036, match the part number on your valve's own diagram, or send us a photo of the valve and we will confirm which o-ring it takes.

When to Replace
Replace it when water weeps from around the handle with the pump running, or when the old o-ring is flattened, cracked or hardened. Replacing it means taking the cover off the valve, so it is worth fitting a new one whenever the cover comes off for a spider gasket or spring service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 75905 the o-ring that seals the valve cover?
No. The cover (lid) o-ring is a separate part: 75930 on the 50mm 76053 valve and 75919 on the 40mm 76036 valve. 75905 is the small No. 10 o-ring on the diverter shaft.
Does the same o-ring fit the 40mm and 50mm valves?
Yes. Astralpool lists 75905 at No. 10 on both the 50mm 76053 and the 40mm 76036 multiport valves.
Which filters use it?
The 2026 Astralpool catalogue lists it for the CA300, CA340 and CA400 (50mm valve 76053) and the ECA550 and ECA650 (40mm valve 76036). Earlier catalogues also listed it on the 40mm multiport assembly for the EC filter.
Water is leaking from around my valve handle. Is this the part?
Usually. Water around the handle and shaft with the pump running is the usual sign of a worn shaft o-ring. Check the spring washers and spring while the cover is off. If the water is coming from the seam where the cover meets the valve body, you need the cover o-ring instead.
Water runs to waste while the valve is on Filter. Will this o-ring fix it?
No. That is an internal leak, usually a worn spider gasket (75929 on 50mm valves, 75916 on 40mm valves) or a weak spring (75912).
My valve diagram shows two o-rings at No. 10. Do I need 75905?
Not necessarily. Astralpool's Multiport Valve - Sep 09 - Current parts list shows a pair of o-rings, 75062, at No. 10 instead of 75905. Match the part number on your valve's own diagram, or send us a photo of the valve.
Is this a genuine Astralpool part?
Yes. We are an authorised Astralpool and Fluidra dealer and warranty agent, and this is the genuine Astralpool 75905.

To the layperson, plumbing sizes and their names can be confusing due to the nominal sizes and naming conventions used.
This is not something we made up. Plumbers and manufacturers have used nominal (meaning ‘by name only’) sizing for decades.
Simply put, in plumbing, named sizes are often not the actual measurements of the pipe, fitting, or part. A PVC pipe called “50mm” or “2"” does not measure 50 mm anywhere. Instead, it follows nominal sizing, an internationally-standardised naming system.
Almost all fittings we use in the pool & spa industry use “pressure PVC” pipe & fittings. Do not confuse with “DWV” or other pipe & fittings and their names and sizes.
Use the Outside Diameter (OD) to check your pipe against fittings. Below is a quick reference for common spa & pool pipe sizes:
| Imperial Name | Metric Name | Pipe Diameter (OD) |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2" | 15mm | ~21.2–21.5 mm |
| 3/4" | 20mm | ~26.6–26.9 mm |
| 1" | 25 mm | ~33.4–33.7 mm |
| 1.5" | 40 mm | ~48.1–48.4 mm |
| 2" | 50 mm | ~60.2–60.8 mm |
| 2.5" | 65 mm | ~75.2–75.5 mm |
To reiterate, these are nominal sizes and are designed to fit matching fittings — not to measure what their name suggests. These are based on PVC Pressure Pipe AS/NZ 1477 Dimensions1.
- º Internal diameters vary slightly by manufacturer and class.
- 1 Not all pool/spa fittings match these dimensions exactly. Some do not follow Australian or international standards. Chinese spas may use proprietary fittings.
Understanding Plumbing Sizes & Nominal Measurements
Plumbing sizes can be confusing. PVC and many other pipe systems use nominal sizes—the size is a name, not the exact measured dimension. This convention is used across most pool and spa systems and other plumbing areas so that pipes and fittings remain compatible.
Why pipe sizes don’t match the measurements
The Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) system standardises pipe dimensions so that pipes, fittings, valves, and accessories interoperate.
Plumbers work with these nominal names every day, but DIYers can be tripped up if they try to match by a tape-measure alone.
How to Measure Pipe Correctly
-
Pipe size is identified by:
- The pipe’s Outside Diameter (OD).
- The fitting’s Inside Diameter (ID) (socket opening).
- Pipe Class / Schedule (e.g., Class 9, 12, 18 or Sch 40) relates to wall thickness and therefore the Internal Diameter (ID) and pressure rating.
- The outside diameter of a fitting is not useful (wall thickness varies by manufacturer).
Hose & Tube Dimensions
Common flexible hose sizes used in pool/spa systems (approximate IDs).
| Imperial Name | Metric Name | Inside Diameter (ID) |
|---|---|---|
| 3/8" | 9–10 mm | ~9 mm |
| 3/4" | 19 mm | ~19 mm |
BSP – British Standard Pipe Thread Sizes
BSP thread names are also nominal. The thread OD will not equal the nominal name.
| BSP Thread Size Naming | Outside Diameter (mm / inch) | TPI |
|---|---|---|
| 1/16" BSP | 7.7 mm / 0.304" | 28 |
| 1/8" BSP | 9.7 mm / 0.383" | 28 |
| 1/4" BSP | 13.16 mm / 0.518" | 19 |
| 3/8" BSP | 16.66 mm / 0.656" | 19 |
| 1/2" BSP / 15 mm | 20.99 mm / 0.825" | 14 |
| 5/8" BSP | 22.99 mm / 0.902" | 14 |
| 3/4" BSP / 20 mm | 26.44 mm / 1.041" | 14 |
| 7/8" BSP | 30.20 mm / 1.189" | 14 |
| 1" BSP / 25 mm | 33.25 mm / 1.309" | 11 |
| 1-1/4" BSP | 41.91 mm / 1.650" | 11 |
| 1-1/2" BSP / 40 mm | 47.80 mm / 1.882" | 11 |
| 2" BSP / 50 mm | 59.61 mm / 2.347" | 11 |
| 2-1/4" BSP | 65.71 mm / 2.587" | 11 |
