A heavy duty replacement leaf basket for SK950 skimmer boxes, sold under names including Filtrite and Quipmaster. The SK900 skimmer takes the same basket. The basket sits in the skimmer under the lid and catches leaves and debris before they reach the pump strainer and pump.

The SK950 Taper Rule (SK9-1.0)
Check your old basket in under a minute:
- Switch off and open. Switch the filter pump off and lift the skimmer lid.
- Remove the old basket. Lift the old basket straight up and out of the skimmer.
- Measure the rim. Measure straight across the top rim, outside edge to outside edge. The SK900 / SK950 basket is about 187 to 190 mm across.
- Measure the base and height. It tapers to a base about 115 to 120 mm across and stands about 125 to 130 mm tall.
- Rule out lookalikes. A basket about 170 mm across that locks in with a twist is the Quiptron type. A small basket about 140 mm across is the SK1000 type.

Frequently asked questions
Does it fit the SK900?
Yes. The SK900 and SK950 skimmers use the same basket. The original part is listed as the Filtrite SKB900 / SK950 skimmer basket.
Is this the same as the Quiptron basket?
No. The Quiptron skimmer takes a smaller basket, about 170 mm across the top. See the Quiptron Skimmer Basket.
Is this the SK1000 basket?
No. The SK1000 above ground skimmer takes a much smaller basket, about 140 mm across the top. See the Filtrite SK1000 Skimmer Basket.
Is this the same as the basket in my pump?
No. A pump basket sits in the pump's strainer housing under the pump lid. A skimmer basket sits in the skimmer box at the edge of the pool. Pump baskets are listed under pump basket strainers.

This is an aftermarket replacement basket to suit SK950 and SK900 skimmer boxes. Brand names and model numbers are used for identification only.
To the layperson, plumbing sizes and their names can be confusing due to the nominal sizes and naming conventions used.
This is not something we made up. Plumbers and manufacturers have used nominal (meaning ‘by name only’) sizing for decades.
Simply put, in plumbing, named sizes are often not the actual measurements of the pipe, fitting, or part. A PVC pipe called “50mm” or “2"” does not measure 50 mm anywhere. Instead, it follows nominal sizing, an internationally-standardised naming system.
Almost all fittings we use in the pool & spa industry use “pressure PVC” pipe & fittings. Do not confuse with “DWV” or other pipe & fittings and their names and sizes.
Use the Outside Diameter (OD) to check your pipe against fittings. Below is a quick reference for common spa & pool pipe sizes:

To reiterate, these are nominal sizes and are designed to fit matching fittings — not to measure what their name suggests. These are based on PVC Pressure Pipe AS/NZ 1477 Dimensions1.

Understanding Plumbing Sizes & Nominal Measurements
Plumbing sizes can be confusing. PVC and many other pipe systems use nominal sizes—the size is a name, not the exact measured dimension. This convention is used across most pool and spa systems and other plumbing areas so that pipes and fittings remain compatible.
Why pipe sizes don’t match the measurements
The Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) system standardises pipe dimensions so that pipes, fittings, valves, and accessories interoperate.
Plumbers work with these nominal names every day, but DIYers can be tripped up if they try to match by a tape-measure alone.
How to Measure Pipe Correctly

Pipe size is identified by:
- The pipe’s Outside Diameter (OD).
- The fitting’s Inside Diameter (ID) (socket opening).
- Pipe Class / Schedule (e.g., Class 9, 12, 18 or Sch 40) relates to wall thickness and therefore the Internal Diameter (ID) and pressure rating.
- The outside diameter of a fitting is not useful (wall thickness varies by manufacturer).
