Sealed 6202 deep groove ball bearing for pool and spa pump electric motors. A 15mm shaft bore, a 35mm outside diameter and an 11mm width.

Check Your Existing Bearing Before Ordering

While these bearings are the sizes commonly used in the pumps listed below, we recommend double checking your current bearings before ordering. Brands use several variants of motor across a model's production life, so the pump model on the nameplate does not always identify the bearing fitted inside the motor.

Specifications

  • Bearing designation: 6202
  • Inside diameter (bore): 15mm
  • Outside diameter: 35mm
  • Width: 11mm
  • Type: single row deep groove ball bearing
  • Sealing: 2RS, rubber sealed both sides
  • Sold as: single bearing

Where This Size Is Used

  • Onga / Pentair: Onga service bearing reference 703610 is a 6202-size bearing used in Australian Onga pump motors. Bearing position and motor application vary between models and motor versions.
  • Astralpool / Hurlcon: Astralpool lists 6202-size service parts including 40294, described as the Notos rear mini bearing, and 4405010135, a 6202 2RS C bearing assembly. Confirm which bearing your motor takes before ordering, because the Astralpool range also uses 6203, 6204 and 6205 depending on the motor.
  • Also encountered in a number of smaller single-phase pool pump motors.

Not To Be Confused With The 6302

The 6302 has the same 15mm bore as a 6202, but a larger 42mm outside diameter and a 13mm width. The two are not interchangeable. Check the outside diameter before ordering.

How To Identify The Bearing You Need

  • The most reliable method is to read the number stamped on the face of the old bearing. A 6202 will be marked 6202, usually followed by a suffix such as 2RS, 2RS1, 2RSH, DDU or C3.
  • If the marking is unreadable, measure the bore, the outside diameter and the width with vernier calipers and match them to the figures above.
  • The four-digit number sets the dimensions. Suffixes describe sealing type and internal clearance. Where the motor specifies a particular suffix or a special bearing arrangement, match that specification as well.

Symptoms Of A Failed Pump Motor Bearing

  • A rumble, growl or grinding that rises and falls with motor speed
  • A high-pitched squeal on start-up that settles once warm
  • Noise that gets steadily worse over weeks rather than appearing overnight
  • A shaft that feels notchy or rough when turned by hand with the power isolated
  • Motor running noticeably hotter than usual

Find Out Why It Failed

Pump motor bearings rarely fail from age alone. The most common cause is a weeping mechanical seal letting water track back along the shaft into the front bearing. Fitting new bearings without replacing the mechanical seal usually means doing the job again. Check that the shaft slinger is present and intact while the motor is apart.

Fitting Notes

Bearing replacement needs a puller and a press or a correctly sized drift. Never drive a bearing on by hitting the outer race, which brinells the tracks and guarantees early failure. Always replace both bearings, never one. This is workshop work for someone equipped to do it, and electrical reconnection must be carried out by a licensed electrician.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is a 6202 bearing?
15mm inside diameter, 35mm outside diameter and 11mm wide.

Is the Onga 703610 a 6202?
Yes. Onga's service reference 703610 is a 6202-size bearing used in Australian Onga pump motors. Bearing position varies with the particular motor, so confirm against your own motor.

Can I fit a 6202 where a 6302 was?
No. Both have a 15mm bore, but the 6302 is 42mm across and 13mm wide against the 6202 at 35mm and 11mm. They are not interchangeable.

Do I need one bearing or two?
Most pump motors use two bearings, and they are not always the same size. Check both ends of the motor, and always replace them as a pair.
