Astralpool Connect 10 Universal Heater Control Kit - Gas Heater & Heat Pump Hybrid Module - HUHC-01 - WWDG

  • Physically Stocked, unlike most "drop-shipping" websites.
  • Shipped from VIC, NSW, WA, QLD

The Hybrid Heater Module lets an Astralpool Connect 10 pool and spa controller run almost any brand of gas heater or heat pump, switching it on and off and holding the water at the temperature set on the Connect 10 touchscreen. It is made by WWDG Technology for the Connect 10, part number HUHC-01, and is sold on its own or as a complete kit with the genuine Astralpool inline temperature sensor kit 520146.

Works with Raypak, Pentair, Hayward, Zodiac, Sensaheat, EvoHeat, Theralux and Reltech heaters, and most other pool or spa gas heaters and heat pumps that use a pressure switch, flow switch or low-voltage fireman switch circuit. The module plugs into a controlled 240V channel on the Connect 10 and breaks into that circuit, so the heater only fires when the Connect 10 calls for heat.

Does not suit Genus III or Genus IV controllers. Older Genus control systems are obsolete; the Connect 10 is the usual replacement.

The Comms-or-Switch Rule (rev. C10-HYB-1.0)

  1. Astralpool or Hurlcon gas heater with Genus comms (Viron eVo, HiNRG, HX, JX and older MX ranges): you do not need this module. Those heaters connect to the Connect 10 directly with the RJ12 comms cable.
  2. Zodiac JXi or Astralpool IXi: order the JXi / IXi Interface for Connect 10 (14608), not this module.
  3. Any other brand of gas heater or heat pump: if it has a pressure switch, flow switch or low-voltage fireman switch circuit that the module can break into, this is the part. That covers Raypak, Pentair, Hayward, Zodiac, Sensaheat, EvoHeat, Theralux, Reltech and most other heaters and heat pumps.
  4. Check for a Connect 10 water temperature sensor. If the Connect 10 already has its inline water temperature sensor (520146) fitted in the line that feeds the heater, order the standalone module. If there is no sensor, or the only sensor is in a separate solar line, order the complete kit.
  5. Check the controller. This module suits the Astralpool Connect 10 only. Genus III and Genus IV controllers are not compatible.

Which Kit Do I Need?

Your setup What to order
Connect 10 with a Raypak, Pentair, Hayward, Zodiac, Sensaheat, EvoHeat, Theralux, Reltech or other non-Astralpool heater, and no Connect 10 water temperature sensor in the heater line Complete Kit: Hybrid Module HUHC-01 plus Temperature Sensor Kit 520146 (this listing, first option)
Same heater, but the Connect 10 inline water temperature sensor 520146 is already fitted in the line that feeds the heater Standalone Module HUHC-01 (this listing, second option)
Replacing a failed Hybrid Module Standalone Module HUHC-01 (this listing, second option)
Astralpool or Hurlcon gas heater with Genus comms (Viron eVo, HiNRG, HX, JX, older MX) Not needed. Connect the heater with the RJ12 comms cable
Zodiac JXi or Astralpool IXi gas heater JXi / IXi Interface for Connect 10, part 14608
Genus III or Genus IV controller Not compatible. See the Connect 10 as the replacement controller

What Is in the Box

Complete Kit (HUHC-01+520146_CK):

  • Hybrid Heater Module with 3-pin plug
  • Astralpool Connect 10 Temperature Sensor Kit 520146, with the plumbing fittings for the inline sensor
  • 3m figure-8 (twin) low-voltage control cable with spade terminals for the heater
  • Info sheet and spare spade terminals (1 male, 1 female)

Standalone Module (HUHC-01):

  • Hybrid Heater Module with 3-pin plug
  • Info sheet and spade terminals (1 male, 1 female)
  • No temperature sensor. The Connect 10 must already have its inline water temperature sensor (520146) in the heater line, or order the complete kit

Requirements Before You Order

  • The Connect 10 needs one unused controlled 240V channel for the module (channel 2 to 8; channel 8 is the usual choice).
  • The Connect 10 water temperature sensor must sit in the cold water side of the same line the heater is plumbed into, before the heater. A sensor in a separate solar suction line has to be moved to the heater line. We recommend running solar from its own solar controller, because the sensor cannot be in the solar water line.
  • Must be fitted by a qualified person experienced with Connect 10 controllers and with the heater being connected.
  • Gas heaters may only be worked on or modified by a licensed Type A gas service person.

Installation: Hardware

  1. Fit the temperature sensor kit inline, before the heater.
  2. Plug the temperature sensor into the "Water Temperature" plug in the Connect 10.
  3. Set the "SYSTEM / LOCAL" jumper in the Connect 10 to "Local".
  4. Run the figure-8 cable to the gas heater's pressure switch (Raypak, Pentair and similar) or to the heat pump's control connection. For a gas heater: unplug one spade terminal on the pressure switch, plug one end of the figure-8 cable onto the pressure switch, then join the other two loose wires together. One spade off, two ends on.
  5. Plug the module into a controlled output on the Connect 10 (usually channel 8).
  6. Set the heater to ON and to its maximum temperature. The Connect 10 controls the heater from here.

Installation: Connect 10 Software

Connect 10 firmware versions use different menus and wording, so the steps below may vary slightly on your unit. Older firmware follows Setup A; newer firmware with the Temperature Control menu follows Setup B.

Setup A:

  1. On the Connect 10, go to Installation Setup and enter your PIN.
  2. In Setup, under Heater, at Is a Genus Heater installed? select No (unless you also have an Astralpool Genus-comms heater fitted).
  3. At Use Connect temperature sensing? select Yes.
  4. In the Channels setup, select the channel that will power this module (generally channel 8).

Setup B:

  1. On the Connect 10, go to Installation Setup and enter your PIN.
  2. In Setup, under Heater, go to Temperature Control.
  3. Select Display and control (Genus and Connect Inbuilt), then Next.
  4. Under Choose primary heater type, select your primary heater.
  5. Under Choose secondary heater type, select your secondary heater if you have one, then Next.
  6. Work through the remaining screens, make any changes needed, and name your heater or heaters.
  7. In the Channels setup, select the channel that will power this module (generally channel 8).

Installation: Wiring the Module to the Heater

  1. Plug the module into the output channel assigned above (usually channel 8).
  2. Run the twin low-voltage cable to the heater and wire the module in series with the gas heater's or heat pump's pressure switch, flow switch, or dedicated low-voltage switching circuit (fireman switch).
  3. Disconnect one wire from the pressure or flow switch and connect that wire to one end of the twin cable from the module.
  4. Connect the remaining wire of the twin cable onto the pressure or flow switch.

You may need to consult the heater manufacturer for the best place to connect. On most heaters the flow switch or pressure switch is fine to tap into.

This work must be done by a qualified, experienced person.

Connect 10 Hybrid Heater Module wired in series with a gas heater pressure switch

Raypak note: connect the module into the pressure switch circuit, not the External Switch terminal. Wired to the External Switch terminal the heater can show a flame symbol even when it is not running. Wired into the pressure switch line, as in the photo, the flame symbol only appears when the heater is actually calling for heat.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Connect 10 Hybrid Heater Module do?
It lets an Astralpool Connect 10 switch a gas heater or heat pump of another brand on and off, and hold the pool or spa at the temperature set on the Connect 10 touchscreen. The module plugs into a controlled channel on the Connect 10 and breaks into the heater's pressure switch, flow switch or fireman switch circuit, so the heater only fires when the Connect 10 calls for heat.

Which heaters does it work with?
Raypak, Pentair, Hayward, Zodiac, Sensaheat, EvoHeat, Theralux, Reltech and most other gas heaters and heat pumps that use a pressure switch, flow switch or low-voltage fireman switch circuit.

Do I need this module for an Astralpool or Hurlcon gas heater?
No. Astralpool and Hurlcon gas heaters with Genus comms (Viron eVo, HiNRG, HX, JX and older MX ranges) connect to the Connect 10 directly with the RJ12 comms cable. Zodiac JXi and Astralpool IXi heaters use the JXi / IXi Interface for Connect 10, part 14608.

Complete kit or standalone module?
Order the complete kit unless the Connect 10 already has its inline water temperature sensor (520146) fitted in the line that feeds the heater. The standalone module is for replacing a failed module, or for a system that already has that sensor in the right place.

Will it work with a Genus III or Genus IV controller?
No. It suits the Astralpool Connect 10 only. Genus controllers are obsolete and the Connect 10 is the usual replacement.

My Connect 10 temperature sensor is in the solar line. Will it work?
Not from there. The sensor must be in the cold water side of the same line the heater is plumbed into, before the heater. If it is in a separate solar suction line it has to be moved, and we recommend running solar from its own solar controller.

Which Connect 10 channel does the module plug into?
Any unused controlled 240V channel, 2 to 8. Channel 8 is the usual choice. Channel 1 is normally the filter pump, and the two constant outlets cannot be used.

Where do I connect it on a Raypak heater?
Into the pressure switch circuit, not the External Switch terminal. Wired to the External Switch terminal the heater can show a flame symbol when it is not running. Wired into the pressure switch line the flame symbol only appears when the heater is actually calling for heat.

What do I set the heater's own thermostat to?
On, at its maximum temperature. The Connect 10 then controls the water temperature through the module.

Is this a genuine Astralpool part?
No. The hybrid module is made by WWDG Technology to work with the genuine Astralpool Connect 10. The temperature sensor kit 520146 supplied in the complete kit is the genuine Astralpool part. We are an authorised Astralpool, Zodiac and Fluidra dealer and warranty agent.

Can I fit it myself?
It must be fitted by a qualified person experienced with Connect 10 controllers and with the heater being connected. Gas heaters may only be worked on or modified by a licensed Type A gas service person.

What is the warranty?
12 months, return to base.
